Machines gone mad in media is a long, entertaining list. Here’s three I find personally memorable:
- You have the Skynet A.I. network of the “Terminator” franchise with its unstoppable goal of the human race’s extinction.
- Then there’s Hal 9000 (short for Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer) from Arthur C. Clarke’s “Space Odyssey” series. Fun fact – if you shift HAL by one letter, you get IBM, the granddaddy of computing with roots as far back as the 1880s.
- Finally, My childhood memories also include VINCENT (short for Vital Information Necessary CENTralized) from Disney’s movie “Blackhole.” He made an impression in this future Sci Fi wannabe before even “Star Trek” in that he horrifically transformed a human crew into mindless, killing cyborgs.
Any additions, applause, and admiration for other murderous sentient machines from media to include in this list?
